FAQ

What is Charity+Power?

Charity+Power is more than a provider of electricity or natural gas to its members.  We also allow donations of a portion of our members’ rate charge to the charity or non-profit of their choice. In turn, we send this donation to you, without any deduction.

Who can Participate?

Any nonprofit organization registered with the IRS as a 501(c)(3) organization is eligible to participate. Charity+Power uses a third-party web-service from GuideStar that contains information on over 1.5 million US-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations.  If you can’t find your nonprofit on Charity+Power, first try searching by your EIN (Tax ID).  If you still can’t locate your nonprofit, go to the Guidestar.org website and search for your charity there. If you find your charity on the GuideStar website, simply email nposervices@guidestar.org and ask to be opted in to their third party web-feed.  Within 24 hours you’ll show up on our data base of nonprofits.  If you don’t see your charity on GuideStar, you can contact us or reach out to them directly but note that GuideStar receives a file from the IRS an average of 11 times a year of organizations who are deemed eligible to be listed as a nonprofit so it will take at most, a month and a half before your nonprofit can be automatically included in the GuideStar database.

How do I register my Charity on Charity+Power?

The fastest way to get going is to scroll to the top of the site and select “Enrollment”. Search for your charity by name, keywords or Tax ID.  On the next page, you’ll fill out your contact information and information about your organization.  All of this can be completed in about 2 minutes.  You will also have access to your charity donor report which will list the names, contact information, and donations of your donors. Please Contact us with all questions.

How much Can We Expect to Receive from Charity+Power?

By paying their utility bill, a guaranteed portion of the rate charge is sent to the non-profit or charitable organization selected by our member, without any deduction.  The actual donation will vary each month depending on the amount of electricity or natural gas consumed by our member and the rate plan they selected. The rate plan states the percentage of the customer’s rate charge that is donated to charity.

Are any Fees Deducted from a Donation?

No fees or other charges will be deducted by us from the donation.

How does my charitable organization get its donation?

Your organization will receive its donations by check on a quarterly basis.  Charities will be responsible for taxes based on their net income or gross receipts.

What information does Charity+Power provide to the nonprofit?

Our goal is to be as transparent as possible. Once you register and are assigned an account, you will have access to the following information: name, email, physical address, amount of donation and the date the donation was made.  You have access to all of this data through the Charity+Power Report Center. You can download your reports into Excel so you can import the data into your donor database..

What is GuideStar?

GuideStar collects information on nonprofits from the IRS and other sources and organizes it into one of the most respected databases of information about nonprofits. To qualify for an Account with Charity+Power, nonprofits must be in the GuideStar database and recognized as a US-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

How do I change the address where my Charity's check is sent?

You will have access to your registration information by accessing your account and updating your contact information or simply email us at nonprofit@ with your updated information.

How do I remove my Charity from the Charity+Power website?

Charity+Power uses a third-party web-service from GuideStar that contains information on over 1 million 501(c)(3) nonprofits to populate its website.  To remove your charity from Charity+Power, simply send an email to nposervices@guidestar.org and simply tell them to remove your charity from their third-party web service and you’ll be removed within 24-48 hours. We want to give you the greatest service in the world and we’re here to help you so if you have questions or want any help with anything, email us at nonprofit@Charity+Power.com.
